Role and responsibilities

Established for a 30-year term, the combined district authority is administered by a council, which elects a select committee from among its number.
Generally, its decisions relate to projects of common interest, as per the powers laid down by its articles of association.

Its responsibilities relate to:

• Spatial planning: land use, development, urban planning and public works
• Economic development, training and employment
• Culture with various projects and assignments relating to heritage, encouraging public interest in reading, and art cinema
• Sports and more specifically inter-municipal facilities such as the inter-municipal swimming pools
• Transport
• The environment, with in particular issues related to collection and treatment of household waste
• Housing
• Prevention and safety
• Social care in the community
